My name is Shaunda-Lynn and I graduated from Dalhousie University with my Masters of Social Work. Aside from my profession as a counsellor, my favourite leisure activities include reading books, learning new facts, painting, going to the gym, walking, and spending time with my family and friends.
My social work practice involves working with clients including adolescents, adults, and older adults in mental health, community, and primary care settings. I also often work with clients who have a self-identified physical health, mental health, developmental (dis)ability, and/or an intellectual (dis)ability.
Additionally, I have several years of social work experience delivering Crisis Intervention and Suicide Risk Assessment and Intervention. During our sessions, I can offer you evidence-based support and strategies if you are experiencing crisis, self-harm, and/or suicidal ideation, which can include developing an effective safety plan.
During our sessions, I can also assist you with working towards your achievable goals that align with your desired life outcomes by using different therapy modalities, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). These therapy modality strategies can include recognizing schemas, challenging automatic thoughts, and learning effective coping mechanisms.
Each counselling session I offer will be social justice-oriented, person-centered, and trauma informed. Overall, my hope is to work alongside you so you can utilize learned evidence-based strategies to achieve your personal goals and effectively manage any type of life stressors.
